Sunday afternoon was the first chance for fans to witness the Iowa State volleyball team’s highly-touted freshman class. The group was ranked No. 8 by PrepVolleyball.com, and the Cardinal and Gold scrimmage would serve as their Hilton Coliseum debut.
Despite some nerves in the opening set, those freshman flourished, garnering high praise from head coach Christy Johnson-Lynch as the cardinal team beat the gold team, 3-1, in front of 785 spectators.
“They all did some really good things,” Johnson-Lynch said. “You saw a lot of Jess (Schaben). She had a lot of sets, took a lot of the load.
