Track: Strategy key in Moen’s quest for a repeat Big 12 10,000 title

Katy Moen searched for her time. She just finished the 10,000-meter race at the Payton Jordan Invitational on May 2.

She hoped it would be good. In fact, it was great. The clock read 33 minutes, 9.63 seconds, a new personal best.

“It was a success,” Moen said.

But it wasn’t perfect. Moen hoped to be about 11 seconds lower and post a United States championships qualifying mark.

With the postseason on the horizon, Moen is moving past the time and focusing on what she can take from the meet. That should help her at the Big 12 championships on Friday, where the spot you finish is more important than what the stopwatch says.
