When Wolf Mahler charged ahead of every runner in the decathlon 1,500 meters, the final event of the Big 12 Championship’s 10-event contest, Iowa State’s Taylor Sanderson had no idea the Texas sophomore was actually chasing him down.
Sanderson led Mahler by 102 points as he sat in third, and after passing Kansas State’s Adam Deterding, the junior thought he had a lock on second place.
