It was right there for the Iowa State softball team. A chance to end a dubious streak and start a homestand off with a victory.
Instead, the Cyclones ran their losing streak to 10.
Omaha defeated ISU, 6-4, thanks to three seventh-inning runs and the Cyclones’ cold bats in the back stretch of the game.
“That was our game to win,” ISU coach Stacy Gemeinhardt-Cesler said, “and we lost it.”
ISU (15-24) hasn’t won since March 30 and has been outscored by 66 runs in its 10 consecutive losses.
“I think you have to focus on what’s the specific task at hand,” Gemeinhardt-Cesler said, “and go for it and forget everything that’s bad in the past and look forward and know that the next play you’re going to make and it’s going to be good and the next thing is going to be good.
