Iowa State starting point guard Monte Morris was named preseason Big 12 Player of the Year by the league’s coaches today.
Morris, who averaged 13.8 points and 6.9 assists per game last year, was named second team All-Big 12 a year ago in the biggest voting snub since Troy Davis finished second in the 1996 Heisman voting. Morris upped his scoring average to 14.6 PPG in conference play last year and played 39.9 minutes per game during league play.
This is one of many preseason awards for Morris, who figures to be Iowa State’s leader in both points and assists in 2016-17.
