Men’s Basketball: Why the shooting of Morris is as important as his shoulder injury for ISU

Iowa State is understandably concerned about the health of its point guard, Monte Morris.

The junior was despondent in the locker room following the Cyclones’ loss to Oklahoma in the quarterfinals of the Big 12 tournament Thursday.

His shoulder hurt, but his psyche was clearly bruised as well.

“I am hurt, emotionally about it,” Morris said.

So it’s not just the pain shooting through the top of his arm that needs to get right for ISU, but also Morris’ frame of mind.

Against the Sooners, Morris’ decision-making was impacted by his bum wing. He admitted that in the second half as the painkilling shot he took prior to the game wore off, he stopped looking to shoot.
