Men’s Basketball: Tsalmpouris turning pro

Iowa State sophomore Georgios Tsalmpouris will forgo his final three seasons of eligibility and turn pro, the school announced Monday.

Tsalmpouris, a 7-foot-1 center from Greece, played sparingly as a freshman under then-coach Fred Hoiberg. He appeared in just eight games last season. The two coaches most responsible for brining Tsalmpouris to ISU have also moved on as Hoiberg is now the head coach of the Chicago Bulls and assistant Matt Abdelmassih is now on Chris Mullin’s staff at St. John’s.

“We are happy for Georgios and his family that he’ll have the opportunity to realize his dream of playing professionally,” ISU coach Steve Prohm said in a statement released by ISU.
