Men’s Basketball: Thomas flourishing in old role

CHICAGO — It happened two years later than many thought, but it has happened.

Matt Thomas is a dead-eye, consistent, confident and dangerous shooter.

“I knew I could always shoot like this,” Thomas told the Ames Tribune this week.

It’s what he was recruited to Iowa State to do when he drew comparisons to the man who signed and coached him, Fred Hoiberg, in his ability to connect from long range. Thomas was a starter from his first game that freshman year, but eventually lost his spot as he shot 33.6 percent from 3-point range in an inconsistent first season.
