Since the announcement that Murray State’s Steve Prohm was taking over the Iowa State men’s basketball program from Fred Hoiberg, so much has been made of the similarity of style, mostly in the pace of play.
Hoiberg’s teams played fast. Prohm’s have, too.
But it hasn’t always been that way for Prohm.
No, speed has been an evolution for the 40-year-old coach’s teams since he took over for a mentor who preferred methodical play over turned-up tempo.
His Racers team in 2012 ranked 180th nationally in tempo and 214th in average offensive possession length, according to college basketball statistics website KenPom.
