Men’s Basketball: Sporting News makes Niang preseason first-team All-American

The accolades continue to roll in for Iowa State men’s basketball’s Georges Niang. The senior was selected as a first-team preseason All-American by The Sporting News, it was announced Monday.

The 6-foot-7 forward averaged 15.3 points, 5.4 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game last season, helping ISU to its second-consecutive Big 12 tournament championship and a three-seed in the NCAA tournament. Niang was also selected to the Blue Ribbon preseason All-American first-team this preseason.

Niang is joined on the first team by Ron Baker (Wichita State), Malcom Brogdon (Virginia), Nigel Hayes (Wisconsin) and Marcus Paige (North Carolina), who graduated from Linn-Mar High School in Marion in 2012.
