Men’s Basketball: Hoiberg undergoes successful surgery

Iowa State coach Fred Hoiberg underwent successful surgery to replace a leaky valve in his heart Friday, the school announced.

The surgery was performed at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. It was the second open-heart surgery Hoiberg has had to endure after being diagnosed with an aortic root aneurysm in 2005. The surgery and subsequent complications resulted in the necessity of a pacemaker and the end of Hoiberg’s NBA career.

“Everything went very well,” Dr. Rakesh Suri said in a statement. “The operation was a success and Mr. Hoiberg is in recovery and doing very well himself.
