CHICAGO — Fred Hoiberg is hoping for a front-row seat to his former pupils.
To make that happen, they have to achieve what they never did when he was their head coach.
Make an Elite Eight.
The Iowa State men’s basketball is in Hoiberg’s new town as a No. 4 seed in the NCAA tournament’s Sweet 16 with a tilt against No. 1 seed Virginia on Friday (6:10 p.m., CBS). The Bulls, coached by Hoiberg, leave town immediately following their game Wednesday and don’t return from a road trip to New York and Orlando until Sunday, which is when the Midwest region’s final is scheduled.
