CHICAGO — He may have already stopped coaching his alma mater, but the Fred Hoiberg era of Iowa State basketball came to a close Friday night in the building he now calls home.

The fourth-seeded Cyclones loss to No. 1 seed Virginia, 84-71, in the Sweet Sixteen, putting a close to their season, three seniors’ career and one of the most successful chapters in school history.
