La Gesse Column: The week strange took over sports

Little did we know on Monday, but the Big 12 football coaches teleconference would be the start of the downward spiral of sports for the week.

It was surprising to see the majority of league coaches — seven by my count — openly come out for a Big 12 title game. A few, such as Oklahoma’s Bob Stoops, are all-in, to borrow a phrase from Paul Rhoads, who is against the title game. Others, such as TCU’s Gary Patterson, seem to be for it if it helps the league make the playoff.

Some, such as Kansas State’s Bill Snyder, are longtime proponents of a conference title game, but it makes no sense, not with the current 10-team, round-robin schedule format of the league.
