The Cyclones kicked off the scoring in the first game during the second inning when senior Jorden Spendlove hit an RBI single which scored senior Maddie Reese. Iowa State added to its lead in the second when Spendlove was brought home by junior Brittany Gomez.
After an inning of no scoring, Kansas cut the lead to one when it scored in the fourth. Right after Kansas scored, Iowa State decided to make a pitching change, sending in senior Stacy Roggentien to replace senior Paris Imholz. Even after the pitching change, the Jayhawks tied the game at two apiece in the fourth.
