The first year for Mark Mangino was a learning experience. He needed to figure who his players were. He didn’t know their strengths and weaknesses. They didn’t know his playbook.
It was a trade off, one that came with some road bumps. There were plenty of three-and-outs and losses piled up.
The season ended 2-10. It wasn’t what anyone wanted, but Mangino liked the foundation put in place. He expected it would take time for things to come together and year two looked to be better.
It sounds like Iowa State in 2014, but it’s not.
