TJ Otzelberger has picked up his first commitment as Iowa State’s head coach in the way of graduate transfer Aljaz Kunc, formerly of Washington State. Kunc is a 6’8” forward from Ljubijana, Slovenia who averaged 6.3 points and 4.3 rebounds per game for the Cougars a year ago despite fighting through injuries to begin the season. Kunc scored in double figures in 5 of Washington State’s last 8 games, averaging 8.9 points and 7.4 rebounds per game.
This is a good start to the Otz era. Kunc, who goes by Jaz, should be a nice piece in the front court as a stretch 4 (33% career 3 point shooter) who also crashes the glass, and encouragingly makes about 80% of his free throws.
