Some cardinal and gold will be making its way to the British Open. Former Iowa State golfer Scott Fernandez will be competing at the oldest major in golf when it’s held at Royal Troon on July 14-17.
Fernandez qualified for his first major by taking second at a qualifying tournament held on Tuesday at the Gailes Links Club in Scotland. Fernandez took shot and shot a 6-under 136 over 36 holes.
The Spanish native is currently playing professionally, primarily on the European Challenge Tour. He was a Cyclone from 2012-15. He set program career records for victories (4), top-10 finishes (29), rounds in the 60s (28) and stroke average (72.
