Football: Why ISU thinks embracing its nasty side will improve the offensive line

Each practice Brandon Blaney watches Jaypee Philbert Jr. Each practice he sees Philbert Jr. making mistakes.

And he couldn’t be any more excited about it.

Blaney isn’t concerned about what his newest left tackle isn’t doing right. It’s all about what he’s doing while still learning Iowa State’s offense.

“Jaypee is making his mistakes a 100 miles an hour,” Blaney said. “You have to stick your face in the fan.”

Blaney knows his offensive lineman will mess up. As long as it’s not the same miscue again and again he’s fine with it – especially when someone like Philbert Jr.
