Iowa State quarterback Sam Richardson and linebacker Levi Peters were named team captains on Monday.
Richardson, a senior, threw for 2,669 yards, 18 touchdowns and nine interceptions last season. He also rushed for 421 yards and three touchdowns.
Peters, a former walk-on, is in line to start at weak-side linebacker. He missed most of last season after suffering an Achilles’ tendon injury. Peters, a junior, is the first underclassmen to be a captain since running back James White in 2012.
