There aren’t any blood ties, but Iowa State’s Sam Richardson is in the running to be a Manning.
Richardson is one of 30 quarterbacks named to the preseason watch list for the Manning Award, annually given to the nation’s top signal caller. The watch list was released on Thursday and is meant to honor the college football accomplishments of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning.
Richardson took command of the Cyclone quarterback job last season. He threw for 2,669 yards, 18 touchdowns and nine interceptions and rushed for 421 yards. He has thrown for 4,607 yards and rushed for 1,010 yards in his career.
