Football: Rhoads plays Lanning, but sticking with Richardson

LUBBOCK, Texas — With one move Iowa State football coach Paul Rhoads seemed to open the door to reevaluating the quarterback position. Backup Joel Lanning replaced starter Sam Richardson in the second half.

With one word he seemly ended any such talk. Rhoads said he’s sticking with Richardson as his signal caller after a 66-31 loss to Texas Tech on Saturday.

“Yeah,” Rhoads said when asked if Richardson is still atop the depth chart.

It was a rough afternoon for Richardson. It started off with an interception. It ended with 10 of 21 completions for 139 yards and three picks.
