Football: Notebook - Philbert out to be best tackle in Big 12

A day after Jaypee Philbert Jr. arrived at Iowa State he met with Brandon Blaney. The offensive line coach laid out what he was looking for.

Not being shy, Philbert Jr. passed on his expectations.

“I told him I wanted to be the best left tackle in the Big 12 and that we would work on that to make that goal,” Philbert Jr. said. “That is where we are at right now.”

Before he can take over the Big 12 he must first conquer ISU’s depth chart. Philbert Jr. opened up camp as the second-string left tackle behind returning starter Jake Campos.
