Football: Moving forward requires ISU to get past FCS losses

The printed off sheet was taped to the door. It was there for every Iowa State football player to see on Monday.

Written in large font, 1-0, sat in the middle of the page. Below it, the phrase “Make it happen!!!” appeared.

For a program that lost season openers to FCS teams the last two years, it was a not-so-subtle reminder about what’s expected against Northern Iowa on Saturday (7 p.m., Cyclones.tv).

“Losing that first game, it’s just a downer,” wide receiver Allen Lazard said, “starts the negativity that you just don’t need. This Saturday is just as important as the next 11”

Arguably, it could be more important.
