The Iowa State football team had found itself looking at the chains too often with the box reading ‘3’ well too far away from the marker. The Cyclones spent their two weeks in between games trying to fix that problem.
In Saturday’s 38-13 win over Kansas, ISU found itself to be doing work early in downs to make things easier — or eliminate entirely — third downs.
“A challenge of mine to (the offensive coaching staff) was better first- and second-down efficiency,” coach Paul Rhoads said following the game.
