The Iowa State defense didn’t mess around in a closed football scrimmage on Saturday. The defense put together a strong day, topping the offense in a performance that impressed head coach Matt Campbell.
“Defensively we came to play,” Campbell said. “Probably three-fourths of the scrimmage I thought they played at a real high rate.”
Campbell called it a “jersey scrimmage” where the coaches used a scoring system for each side of the ball. The defense outscored the offense thanks to a series of turnover, including a fumble recovery and an interception, defensive coordinator Jon Heacock said.
“Those guys just did a good job,” Heacock said.
