Football: Cyclone sacks among nation’s best

One of the areas that has drawn the most frustration and consternation during the Paul Rhoads era of Iowa State football has been the lack of any sort of productive pass rush.

Through two games this season, that’s gone from glaring weakness to major strength.

ISU ranks fifth in the country in team sacks and has the country’s individual leader in the category lined up at defensive end.

“One of the keys is a lot of people available from different spots to come after the quarterback,” Rhoads said. “I think (defensive ends coach) Stan Eggen has done a nice job getting those guys to be just relentless in their pursuit of the quarterback.
