The Iowa State offense burned bright and it burned hot, but it certainly burned out just as quickly.
The Cyclones’ ultra-productive start gave way to a non-existent finish in a 45-21 loss to TCU on Saturday night at Jack Trice Stadium.
ISU’s offense opened the game smooth, efficient and high-scoring, accumulating 21 points and 262 yards to put the Horned Frogs on their heels and upset alert.
“For 15 minutes offensively we were executing at a high rate,” ISU coach Paul Rhoads said.
Things quickly, however, disintegrated.
That brilliant beginning begat an awful ending for an offense that simply couldn’t keep pace with a Big 12 foe that piles up points in a hurry.
