Colin Newell is staying close to home.
The Ames offensive lineman verbally committed to Iowa State on Saturday, according to a source. Newell, a three-star Rivals.com prospect, also held offers from Miami (Ohio) and Colorado State. He grew up an ISU fan.
Newell was the first recruit coach Matt Campbell visited upon being hired in November. Newell missed most of last season following shoulder surgery.
