Following a whirlwind couple of days on the news front where the Big Ten cancelled their season, then didn’t, then did again, and Nebraska and Iowa were both very upset about the decision, the Big 12 was placed in a curious position. It ended up becoming the linchpin holding the fate of the 2020 college football season in its hands.
Per various reports, the SEC and ACC both were interested in playing football this fall, but had the Big 12 followed the Big Ten and Pac-12 in cancelling their football seasons, those two conferences would have had difficulty justifying playing a season when more than half of the Power Five had already decided not to play.
