Things were supposed to start turning around in the 2009-10 Men’s Basketball campaign. Greg McDermott was in his fourth season at the helm, and after a subpar showing in the first three, Iowa State had rolled off six straight wins before dropping a two-point decision to Northwestern.
The Cyclones had plenty to play for when hosting Northern Iowa on December 2. A win would propel them to a 7-1 record, with hopes of finishing over .500 for the first time in McDermott’s tenure as head coach.
