#TBT: Hayden Fry’s First Win

Unlike the slim pickings of last week’s TBT, this week we’re filled to bursting with options as we examine Iowa’s history with the Iowa State Cyclones. The Hawkeyes have played their in-state rival 68 times, the seventh most frequently played opponent and most common non-Big Ten foe in school history. They’re also one of Iowa’s oldest opponents with the first game having been played on October 28, 1899 (a 5-0 Iowa victory).

There is no shortage of memorable moments in this rivalry. There’s Iowa State’s 44-41 triple overtime win in 2011 and Iowa’s avenging win in 2017 of the same score on the backs of Akrum Wadley, Nate Stanley, and Ihmir Smith-Marsette.
