I remember, rather vividly, the feeling on campus following Hayden Fry’s final season as head coach. 1998 was my freshman year in Iowa City and while I did not attend a single game (some of us had to work on Saturdays), nearly every week of that season brought feelings that many of us, myself included, were not prepared to handle. I remember, just as vividly, the (seemingly) campus-wide angst that broke out when it was announced that Bob Stoops had spurned his alma mater to become the new head coach at Oklahoma, one could almost feel the collective tightening of sphincters in the nether regions of the student body.
