Local politicians welcome Mexico to Arizona

The governor of Arizona and mayor of Phoenix welcomed the Mexican national team to Arizona as the team prepares to begin its Copa America Centenario campaign.

PHOENIX — Phoenix mayor Greg Stanton and Arizona governor Doug Ducey went to Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport on Thursday to welcome the Mexican national team to the region.

Mexico is staying in downtown Phoenix ahead of its first Copa America Centenario group match. The contest with Uruguay will take place in nearby Glendale, Ariz., at University of Phoenix Stadium on June 5.
