With 'work to do' on defensive line, Colts could target pass rushers in free agency

INDIANAPOLIS — The Colts defense has already been through one major overhaul this season, a shift at defensive coordinator from Matt Eberflus to Gus Bradley made necessary when Eberflus landed the head coaching job in Chicago.

From a personnel standpoint, though, there is still work to do.

There's one clear goal that general manager Chris Ballard has been laying out since the 2021 season ended in disappointment.

“We’ve got to be able to rush the passer better,” Ballard said in January. “It’s a passing league. You’ve got to be able to affect the passer.”

Indianapolis posted just 33 sacks in 2021, tied for 25th in the NFL and the fewest sacks the Colts recorded in any season of Eberflus’ four-year tenure.
