New Colts QB Jacob Eason improvised workouts with rookie WRs Michael Pittman, Dezmon Patmon

INDIANAPOLIS — Michael Pittman sent the first texts.

The Colts’ first pick in April’s draft, Pittman was in Santa Ana, Calif., and he knew the team’s fourth-round pick, quarterback Jacob Eason, was working out 10 miles away in Irvine, and sixth-round wide receiver Dezmon Patmon lived 90 minutes down the road in San Diego.

Because of the restrictions from the NFL caused by the coronavirus pandemic, the three rookies were soaking up information over Zoom, but they had little way to put that work into practice.

Pittman’s text was simple.

“Hey, let’s throw.”

For the past couple of months, the rookies have been meeting in Southern California and throwing, filming their workouts and sending the footage to Colts position coaches Marcus Brady and Mike Groh in order to get some hands-on teaching from afar.
