Insider: Why the NFL Draft makes Colts' path to 53 harder than it's looked in a long time

Frank Reich and Chris Ballard break down 2019 Draft Indianapolis Star

INDIANAPOLIS — After the draft had finally ended, after three days in the draft room, four trades and ultimately 10 picks, coach Frank Reich watched the names go from the draft board to the roster, slotting in among a roster that has undergone remarkably little turnover since the end of last season.

As he watched the new names get added to the old, one thought crossed through Reich’s mind.

“This is going to be tough,” Reich remembers saying.

Reich is referring to the end of training camp, when the Indianapolis Colts coaching staff has to whittle the roster from roughly 90 players to the 53 that will start the 2019 season.
