INDIANAPOLIS – Chuck Pagano occasionally recalls the story of his first memories as coach of the Indianapolis Colts. In those quiet moments following his introductory press conference, he retreated to his new office and, before hanging up the family photos and mementos that would make it his own, pondered an important, though belated, question.
“What the heck did we just do?” Pagano asked his wife, Tina.
Maybe that was about the time Pagano recognized his daunting reality. There was no instruction manual for the role he was about to undertake.
