Insider: Colts running game is dictating the way opposing defenses have to play them

INDIANAPOLIS — The hardest part of game-planning in the NFL is trying to see into the future.

Or in other words, to figure out the game plan the opponent is building. A team looks into the future first by looking into the past, by watching film and isolating a team’s tendencies. But good NFL teams spend a lot of time trying to break those tendencies, and those adjustments can be hard to predict.

The way the Indianapolis Colts have run the ball this season has made it much easier for coach Frank Reich and offensive coordinator Nick Sirianni to guess how opposing defenses are going to attack.
