It's hard to remember now, but for a moment, former Indianapolis Colts kicker Matt Gay was a brilliant signing. But it didn't take long for Gay's career to crumble, and now, he's been released by the Washington Commanders... meaning that career may finally be over.
Gay originally signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL Draft. He was waived at the end of that season, briefly signed with the Colts, and then moved on to the Los Angeles Chargers. There, Gay thrived; he helped take the team to a Super Bowl championship in 2021 and was named to the Pro Bowl.
