WESTFIELD — Jacob Eason will start the Colts’ final preseason game against the Detroit Lions, Colts head coach Frank Reich announced on the final day of training camp Wednesday.
Eason will likely rotate snaps with rookie Sam Ehlinger as the two young Indianapolis quarterbacks continue to battle for the backup job behind Carson Wentz.
“Jacob’s going to start on Friday,” Reich said. “We’re probably going to mix up the playing time.”
Neither quarterback will be playing with most of the Colts’ starters on offense.
“I’ve gone back and forth on that,” Reich said. “Earlier, I think I told you the starters were playing, but I talked to Coach (Dan) Campbell, and they’re not playing their starters, so we kind of reevaluated.
