Colts trade up and draft Maryland safety Nick Cross in the third round

INDIANAPOLIS -- The Colts have taken their first defender of the 2022 draft. And they did so through a trade.

Indianapolis traded up to No. 96 overall in the third round with the Broncos and selected Maryland safety Nick Cross.

Indianapolis gave up its second of two fifth-round picks, No. 179 overall, as well as one of next year's third-round picks to make the move up.

Cross is the Colts' fourth pick of the day, following three offensive selections. Indianapolis took Cincinnati wide receiver Alec Pierce in the second round, Virginia tight end Jelani Woods in the third and Central Michigan offensive tackle Bernhard Raimann in the third.
