Colts release Margus Hunt, highlighting need at defensive tackle

INDIANAPOLIS — The Colts have released veteran nose tackle Margus Hunt, multiple sources told IndyStar on Monday, freeing up $4 million in salary cap space without incurring any dead money.

Hunt, who has been in Indianapolis the past three seasons, failed to live up to the way he played in 2018, when he earned a two-year, $9 million deal last offseason.

The 32-year-old Hunt acknowledged the drop-off in his play in a statement of thanks released on his social media accounts.

"This is a performance-based business, and my performance last year wasn’t up to my standards," Hunt wrote.
