INDIANAPOLIS — Finding a recipient for the Ed Block Courage Award wasn’t exactly a tough task for the Indianapolis Colts this season.
Rigoberto Sanchez was the obvious choice.
The award recognizes courageous play, and it’s hard to imagine there’s been anybody in the NFL who has played with more courage this season than Sanchez. The Colts punter kicked against the Titans days after receiving a cancer diagnosis, underwent surgery two days later to remove a tumor and then returned to the field last week after missing just two games.
“Obviously, the physical aspect is one thing, but just the mental and emotional side of it is another monstrous thing to tackle,” Colts coach Frank Reich said.
