Colts hire veteran NFL assistant Ron Milus as DBs coach, working on Richard Smith for LBs

INDIANAPOLIS — The first hire for Gus Bradley’s defensive staff is a man the coordinator knows well.

The Colts have hired veteran defensive backs coach Ron Milus, a league source told IndyStar on Saturday. Milus has been a part of Bradley’s staff at each of the coordinator’s last three stops — the Chargers, Raiders and now the Colts.

But Milus built his reputation long before he met Bradley. Milus, 58, has been a defensive backs coach in the NFL for more than two decades, working for seven different franchises, including two stops in Denver.

Widely respected for his work collaborating with Bradley on the Chargers and Raiders defensive backs, Milus is an important hire for a Colts secondary full of young, promising players.
