Ballard: Colts weren’t good enough to win without Andrew Luck. ‘That’s on me’

INDIANAPOLIS -- The moment Andrew Luck told the Indianapolis Colts he was hanging up his helmet for good, he was putting Chris Ballard to the test.

Not one the Colts general manager wanted, mind you. Having a young quarterbacking prodigy whipping the ball around Lucas Oil Stadium for the foreseeable future was one of the most appealing aspects of taking the reins three years ago. Most general managers don’t have the luxury of taking over a franchise with a superstar quarterback already enlisted. So make no mistake about it, given the choice this season, Ballard would much rather have had Luck in his locker room rather than at home changing diapers.
