DES MOINES, Iowa – struck out four batters and threw a complete game but the pitcher's duel trended away from the Sycamores in a 2-0 loss at Drake in the Missouri Valley Conference series opener.
The game was Schnaiter's third complete game performance of the year and first since shutting out Butler on Feb. 25. Schnaiter (5-7) was charged with the loss after allowing one earned run on five hits while walking three to go along with her four strikeouts.
Nicole Newman (11-6), the national leader in strikeouts, was perfect in the circle for Drake (19-13, 5-1) and recorded 15 strikeouts in her complete game performance as she claimed the win.
