In a surprising twist to the women’s basketball campaign, Indiana announced prior to Sunday afternoon’s game at Iowa that senior guard Jaelynn Penn has opted out of the remainder of the season.
Penn started 10 of the 11 games in which she appeared this season, averaging 9.5 points and 4.9 rebounds. She’s also developed into IU’s most trusted defender, often taking on the top assignment for coach Teri Moren.
But this season was a frustrating one for the Louisville native, who missed time due to an injury suffered against Maryland last month. Penn also had trouble finding her stroke from beyond the arc, a continuation of last season’s struggles from deep.
