NORMAL — Illinois State center fielder Alyssa Wiebel spent most of Saturday afternoon standing in the midst of a blustery, pesky, southwest wind swirling in the outfield at Marian Kneer Stadium.
"The wind got pretty crazy," she said. "Some of those gusts, I was hoping the ball wouldn't get hit because I wouldn't know where it was going to go."
A sky-high blast off Wiebel's bat in the ninth inning proved prophetically challenging for Indiana State left fielder Bailey Martin. Wiebel's drive dropped barely out of Martin's reach and scored Riley Strandgard with a walk-off winning run as the Redbirds claimed a 6-5 victory over the Sycamores.
