Fifth-seeded Bradley defeated No. 6 Northern Iowa in last year's Missouri Valley Conference Tournament championship game. UNI was the first sixth seed in the title game since 1989, while the Braves were only the second No. 5 to capture the title (Indiana State in 2001).
Bradley's three wins came by a combined eight points. Six of the nine tourney games were decided by five points or less. It was the first MVC Tournament in which one of the top three seeds failed to reach the title game.
